The unfortunate collapse of the Morandi Highway Bridge in Genoa, Italy is expected to create delays and disruption to container collection and delivery to port for some shipments.
The bridge was a key crossing within the Liguria region in Italy by way of connecting Northern cities like Milan to the Port of Genoa. Since the collapse, authorities have put some restrictions on road transport and services to ease congestion on roads within the city and these restrictions change daily. The road congestion is likely to increase as the holiday season finishes and business’ return to full production but the full impact is not to be known at this point.
All Genoa based terminals continue to operate and we will work with clients to ensure container drop off and deliveries are managed. We do recommend extra lead time be factored in for container movement to and from the city and terminals.
As more information is made available we will update clients via newsletter. If you have any questions or require further information in the interim, please contact your Client Services representative.
