Ports of Auckland stops again

Further strike action at Auckland's docks will go ahead tonight after port management rejected a counter offer from the Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ).

The union has been negotiating for better pay and conditions since August but a resolution remains out of sight, with Ports of Auckland (POA) warning more business will be lost as the industrial action continues.

The strike is planned for a 48-hour period, starting at 11pm tonight (9 Jan 2012) and will affect three ships.

MUNZ made a counter offer to the port on 6 January but this was deemed to not be "attractive" to POA management which is hoping to negotiate a deal when mediation resumes on Thursday although it is also proceeding with a proposal to contract out its labour force.

The latest strike will cause further delays in shipping and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your customer service representative.
