The Rail and Maritime Transport Union has served notice on KiwiRail of an intention to strike following a vote of members. The date is yet to be decided but 14 days’ notice has to be given because rail workers are an essential service.
The strike would be the first full national stoppage of the rail system since 1994 and will affect all rail operations, including rail ferries, as well as Auckland and Wellington Metro systems. Therefore as well as passenger services there will be disruption to freight movements.
Our Client Services team will contact customers where deliveries are affected.
